Proactive for semi-normal skin?

I have pretty normal skin, but there's always that occassional pimple every week...so I was wondering if there was anyone out there who has the same skin type and is using Proactive? Does it keep zits away completely? Does your skin feel smoother? Would you recommend it for me? Thanks for helping!
Proactive for semi-normal skin?
Go out and buy Alpha Hydrox and it will exfoliate your skin daily and you won't get any break outs.

It's in a red box in the acne cream section. It's an AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid)

That's all you need. Your skin will feel super smooth!
Proactive for semi-normal skin?
I use proactive and noxema.

If you've got fairly normal, clear skin, I'd try pro-active because it does make your skin feel a loooot better.

And use Noxema on those nights/days when you are just too tired to use proactive.

That's what I do haha.
Reply:The main ingredient in proactive is benzoyl peroxide. Might be a bad idea for any skin type...

1. "Benzoyl peroxide has been shown to be a tumor promoter and progression agent in a number of animal studies. The clinical significance of this is unknown."

"Benzoyl peroxide in acetone at doses of 5 and 10 mg administered twice per week induced skin tumors in transgenic Tg.AC mice in a study using 20 weeks of topical treatment."

2. "Inorganic peroxide (H(2)O(2))-mediated malignant transformation was also enhanced effectively by iron."

3. "Benzoyl peroxide promotes the formation of melanotic tumors in the skin of 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene-initiated Syrian golden hamsters."

4. "CONCLUSION: This study indicated that benzoyl peroxide could increase carcinogenesis of golden hamster tongue which induced by DMBA. Consideration of promoting agent should be taken in carcinogenesis as well as carcinogen."

5. "...followed by topical treatment with benzoyl peroxide, a tumor promoter (20 mg/animal/0.2 ml acetone) twice a week for 1 month..." A search in PubMed, an online directory of medical studies throughout the medical community, shows over 113 studies relating to benzoyl peroxide and skin cancer. Over 2/3 of these show a causative association between benzoyl peroxide and skin cancer.
Reply:i use proactive and i have same skin as you. sometimes my face gets alittle dry but i just use a good moisturiser over it and it works fine. if i use proactive every morning and night it works great. skin does feel smoother though most days. hope this helps.
Reply:I have the same skin type and Proactiv works soooo good for me!! I would break out(nothing major, just one or two pimples, but still!!) about once a week, mainly around my chin area. Ever since I started using Proactiv, I only get like one little pimple around my time of the month, but that's it! My skin doesn't dry up or anything. It just feels and looks great! I've gotten a lot of compliments on my skin ever since I started using it so I really do recommend it to everyone=) And just a little tip if you are considering buying it...get it from eBay...you'll save TONS of money that way versus buying it directly from the Proactiv website=)
