About my dogs skin....?

My dog has extremely dry skin and i just read that cold milk soothes skin, like dip a washcloth in it and put it on the irratated skin....but would that also work for a dog??

"Ziggy" has a good answer but I would also take it to a vet for professional evaluation.

The milk sounds like it would be smoothing but may encourage more licking-smile.

I would get/switch to a better dog food, Science Diet for sensitive skin is very good. It attacks the problem from the inside, the Tea Tree suggestion from the outside.
About my dogs skin....?
I am an animal lover and have kept animals for over 30 years... I am a great believer in alternative therapy and have used different forms for different conditions in my animals..../

I would suggest giving your dog a regular (at least once a week) bath with a weak solution made from tea tree oil .... I would also get some tea tree lotion to apply to the various areas ....

However first you must work out when this condition startd appearing - was the dog in a shock situation - a fight or an accident? has there been disruption - like moving house - recently? Is there upset in the family? ....

Animals are like us, they feel and respond to emotions in a similar way to us - if your dog is unhappy then something is making them unhappy - treat the conditon and rectify the situation. Make sure they get lots of loves and cuddles - being loved makes all things happy.
Reply:take your dog to the vet to make sure there no underlying conditions such as thyroid problems. if there are not any other health problems your vet can recommend a shampoo to help with the skin, a change in diet may also be recomended by your vet. the best thing to do is see a vet before doing any treatments of your own.
Reply:You really should discuss the dog's condition with a veterinarian. The problem could be common in whatever breed your dog is or whatever shampoo you're using on it, an allergy or even it's diet. Before trying home remedies that may actually do more harm than good, make an attempt to find the cause.
