Healing my dogs skin after having mange?

I got my dog from a rescue home about 3 months ago now. He had mange when he was dropped off with them and has had the "spot on" type treatments to cure it, he hass had 3 doses now and up untill two weeks ago was getting a lot better with most of his hair coming back. In the last 2 weeks he has got worse again, very itchy and because of this breaks the skin a lot especially on the back of the neck.

We took him back to the vet last week who supplied more of the "spot on" treatments and a shampoo which is meant to help clear the skin. but i was thinking is there a cream that can be used like Savlon for humans that would help heal the broken areas of skin?

I don't know what it is called but I use a cream on my dog when he gets broken skin due to an infection, its' like a version of sudacrem you can get it from any pet shop and it is fantastic, there is also a powder that does the same thing but also dries up any seeping,

dont go to the vet you will pay twice the price or more for something that can be bought at your local pet world.

my friend gave me some wonderful cream, called DERMISOL,it helped my dog after she'd been biting at her bum, her fur came back real quick, ask your vet for some

good luck
Reply:Try Bag Balm - Its a medicated salve that will help the sores heal and help relieve the itching. You can get it at Feed Stores or Equine (Horse) Supply shops. It was originally formulated for the sores that cows get on their utters from being milked, thus the name. It's completely safe for your dog if he licks it.
Reply:we rescued a german shepherd with the same problem. i went and got anti fungal cream from the dollar store and used it and aloe vera jell alternating the two and it cleared up in less than 2 weeks. we tried the vet meds with no relief !!!
Reply:My dog ad mange. The vet gave me a spot treatment and shampoo. The shampoo smelled aweful, but i had to bath him once a week. He also said that its gonna get worse before it gets better.

I believe you can also try goldbond baby powder to help with the itching.

His skin and coat is very good now. We also feed him a high premium food and in his earlier days, we gave him fishoil capsules.

Good luck...its not an easy thing to take care of.
Reply:When one of mine appeared to have the mange on her neck, I shampooed her, and then shampooed the mange-area with Sulfadene shampoo. After that I patted the area dry and sprayed it with 10% cortisone spray. You can also use the cortisone cream or ointment that they sell for human use, and that might be even less expensive.

The aloe vera suggestion might work really well. Aloe vera is truly amazing at healing burns, and might do really well on the healing mange areas.

You have several good suggestions here. Pick one and try it. If it doesn't work in a day or two, try another. You'll find one that will work for your dog eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Reply:Get a spray bottle, fill it with distlled water, put several drops of tea trea oil into it, then a few drops of lavendar oil into it. Spray this onto your dog in the areas it needs hair two or three times a day.

Is your dog scratching himself is why the skin is breaking? If that's the case then powder the areas he insists on scratching with gold bond. For the broken areas of skin, you need to be concerned about possible infection. I've used a little diluted barbicide dotted on unless I see infection and in that case a vet has to take over.

Please understand that the reason your rescue has mange in the first place is because of lack of diet %26amp; nutrition. It is very important that you correct this. With dogs I rescue with mange, even though they are a rescue, they have to be put on the best food (single source) with zero treats. I also have a supplement program I put them on to boost their immune system which is the underlying cause of the mange to begin with. If you don't do this, the dog wiill relapse, especially if I've taken the dog to a vet and is on anti-biotics.
Reply:Hello.

Don't buy medication from your vet ,just get a prescription then buy online you will save a fortune .

Most of the medication you are mentioning does not even need a prescription.

Try this site for pet advise they have vets who will advise free plus a shop where you can buy most pet medications, i use this site and delivery is within 2 or 3 days.

They are very good.

good luck

Reply:several years ago my dog had "hot spots." Tea tree oil soothed the itching and aided in healing.
Reply:Where are all you people located?

Our farm dog contracted mange from running in the field where fox were traveling with their mange. Vets give mange shots to swine. He gave our big dog a mange shot, it cleared up the whole situation. The fox eventually died from the mange, the farm dog is fine.
Reply:Tea Tree cream does the trick. It's an antiseptic, cools the irritation and as it smells horrible to dogs, they won't lick it off.

Also there is a powder that you can add to the food that ensures any mange won't return. I think it's called Rescue Powder.
Reply:Do you know what kind of mange? If it is Demodectic mange, bath him, like once a week with peroxide, and use peroxide on cotton balls inside his ears.Do not put any cream on him..his skin needs air and to be dry to heal.Mites cause this, any kind of mange,so obviously there are still mites present.Bath in lukewarm water, too hot of water will continue to dry his skin.Prevent stressful situations if this is demodectic mange ,which will contribute to lowering his bodies immune system.good luck
Reply:My dog lost her fur, I believe through stress. The vet said to shampoo her twice a week with the special shampoo. This stressed her even more. So I used to rub Aloe Vera gel onto her skin. Her fur grew back very well. Sadly she has now died. She was 17 years old.
Reply:Camrosa cream will sort out the itchy skin. Quistel shampoo and spray lotion stimulates the hair folicles. Have a look at these links and read the testimonials.

Reply:My dog had mange last year. My vet gave my dog an anti-biotic injection. It is a mite that buries itself under the dog`s skin just like scabies in humans. If u are in the UK ask your vet for MALASEB shampoo. It gets rid of the microbugs in his fur. You have to lather it up and leave it on your dog for 10 minutes before rinsing off but it`s FANTASTIC !. I still use the ADVOCATE back of the neck stuff as a regular monthly flea treatment as well as the Malaseb. Good luck !
Reply:My chihuahua had mange when he was a pup so my dad took him to the vet immediately and they gave us this great cream. Once we had applied it we could see it working as he was much more calm and wasn't itching no more. Go to the vet.
